Kimberly Callas

Artist Kimberly Callas has been sculpting the figure for over fifteen years. She studied with some of the top figurative instructors in the US earning her BFA from the University of Michigan and a MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and universities and has won several awards, including two Elizabeth Greenshield’s Foundation grants and the Stobart Foundation grant. Drawing from her rigorous academic training and her love of natural materials, Callas combines representation with abstraction to explore the body’s relationship with spirit and earth. She has developed her own esthetic, which combines the Greek-inspired Western tradition of idealized naturalism and the scientific observation with symbolic treatments of the human body and the human condition found in the indigenous cultures, past and present. Both formally and on her own, Ms. Callas has studied world religions and cultural myths and has discovered common elements of ritual transformation, which lie at the heart of her work.
