Lou Schellenberg
Lou Schellenberg’s paintings are influenced by her time in Maine, Nova Scotia, Canada and Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania where she has been an Associate Professor of Fine Art at Elizabethtown College for many years. With just a few, deep brushstrokes, her bold, plein air paintings convey a sense of the simple power of light, color and basic forms. She often presents placid scenes, quietly populated by building shapes, sweeps of earthy landscape and still, blue waters. “I like the abstraction created by the shapes of trees and buildings” she says, and strive to use “design elements that make it (subject matter) more abstract… I focus on shapes and shadow”.
Schellenberg’s paintings illustrate her philosophy of simply translating what she observes in life. As a result, she instills a perceptive presence which consistently and gracefully captures a sense of deeper restfulness within the beauty of place.
Schellenberg holds an MFA from the University at Albany, SUNY, Albany, NY and a Diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA
